UPDATE 9-7 | 4 PM
We spent the afternoon with Mikhal, and my goodness, he can’t help but fill your heart with so much love.
We talked to the doctor earlier and his vet team, and while he’s a little bit nauseous from yesterday and grumbly—who can blame him after all he’s been through?—he stood on his own outside. For the first time since he’s been there, he noticed a squirrel. His eyes lit up, and he looked up at the team as if to say, “Hey, did you see that too?” It was the first time since we’ve had him that he remembered what it was like to be a dog.
His breathing was labored when we arrived, but watch as time passes: his heart rate settles, he eats a little and drinks, and looks up with only love.
Those little moments make everything feel like all the pain he’s endured is one step closer to a life full of only joy, love, and peace—and so, so worth it.
They removed the catheter yesterday, and he’s starting to remember the simple things. He’ll be going home to Julie’s on Monday—one step at a time—but this little warrior isn’t giving up. His eyes light up, and his skin looks a little better. We are a bit concerned that he’s still losing weight, which is why the feeding tube will remain in for a while, but the abdominal drain will come out soon.
He still has a long road to recovery, and we don’t know what the future holds, but one thing’s for sure: it will be full of love.
This is just a glimpse of the time we spent together, and my goodness, he is such a special soul. ✨
Please keep praying. Keep believing and keep having hope. Miracles are around us. He is one.
I truly believe he feels each one of our hearts as we walk beside him while he climbs the impossible mountain. We can’t let him down now. Keep praying.
