The Unstoppable Fight for Mikhal’s Life—Fueled by Love, Faith, and the Power of a Caring Community
We are so very thankful for Dr. Millard and her team, and one of the things that makes them as special as they are is that they care about their employees just as much as they care about the animals in their care. In respect to giving their staff time to be with their families and maintain their emotional well-being, they are closed for Labor Day.
So what does that mean for Mikhal? For the next 30 hours, he will be going to our medical coordinator’s home. She has decades of experience as a vet tech and leads our med team. She is well-versed in managing his feeding tube, catheter, and the drain from his incision, making her the best option for his care during this critical time, compared to moving him to a different hospital where they would need to learn all about his case. Julie has been by his side every single day, and Mikhal will return to the ICU tomorrow when they reopen.
We will keep you updated, but please keep both Julie and Mikhal in your prayers. Everything we have done and everything we continue to do is in his best interest so that this precious soul will get to experience the life he’s meant to—with love, joy, peace, and happiness.
For three days, people at Wichita Animal Shelter and Kansas Humane Society and even a vet from KHS walked past his kennel, overlooked him, and left him suffering to die in a kill shelter; they said he “looked stable.” Now, one week later, he has the world praying for him and every single one of us fighting for him to live right alongside him. And he’s fighting with us. Isn’t it amazing what love can do?
We can never give up, because God’s miracles often come when we least expect them, and every step of faith brings us closer. One single day at a time.
