This beautiful soul is showing the world that miracles are possible and where there is a will… there is a way. Keep fighting, baby boy!
Update: 8-30 11am
They are helping Mikhal take a few steps. Although he is still very frail, which is to be expected given his extreme malnutrition, there are signs of progress. He has gained some weight—he was 20 kg (about 44 pounds) when he came in, and today he is at 22 kg (about 48.5 pounds). Every little bit of progress is a victory. They will continue to stand him up and encourage him to take a few steps each day, slowly rebuilding his strength.
Mikhal will be using a Bailey chair once a day. This special chair helps dogs with certain medical conditions eat in an upright position, preventing issues like aspiration pneumonia. Along with this, they are carefully feeding him ID blended food, which is easy on his digestive system and designed for dogs recovering from illness.
His bloodwork will be redone tomorrow, allowing the vets to keep a close eye on his recovery. They are still checking his electrolytes, which are vital minerals that help with essential functions like hydration and nerve signals. The medical team measures everything he takes in and puts out through his feeding tube (called a J-tube) and his abdominal drain.
While there is still a large amount of fluid draining, the fact that it looks normal is reassuring. They hope to see a reduction in this fluid soon, but for now, we are grateful for every positive sign.
The first few days at the emergency vet cost $3,000, and the estimated cost for the first week of his care here is $13,000. Looking at all, in minimum $30,000.
Mikhal will be at the clinic for at least two more weeks, and these costs will continue to rise. Please keep sharing his story, and if your heart is moved to donate to his care and the care of others like him, we would be deeply grateful. Every soul deserves someone to fight for them and to know their life mattered.
Mikhal is fighting with everything he has, and we are fighting right beside him every single step of the way.
